MIGUEL MENESES

Miguel Meneses was born in Lisbon in 1975. When asked what he does, it is quite possible that he will answer that he works in a butcher's shop, Zé's butcher's shop. To provoke and deflect prejudices in this world that is increasingly digital, artificial, superficial and clogged by CEOs.

The attraction for text and images led him to the world of editorial publications, where he has been for almost 30 years. At the same time, he occasionally collaborates on photography and video projects. The weight of the machine, the revelation, the editing are the closest we can come to deceiving the power that time has over us. And we are the ones in charge. From time to time.

His academic training in political science and international relations, towards a diplomatic career, led him to become an observer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. With a visit to the Former Yugoslavia that marked him by pushing him as close as he has ever been to a post-war scenario and where he clearly realized that the reality of the world is often channeled to everyone as fiction. And how human beings easily feed and like to be dependent on illusion.

Back in his early years, his daydreamer condition, diagnosed at a young age, led to him being banned as a goalkeeper from almost every youth football team in his neighborhood. Pushing him onto the four wheels of a skateboard and back to one of his main childhood hobbies: inventing stories and characters. Never losing that connection to this day, collaborating, from time to time, in b-side mode, as an actor or writer in projects linked to fiction for cinema or television.

He continues to lead one of his first editorial projects, the local newspaper “Notícias do Parque”, an exclusive publication of Parque das Nações, for 23 years.
